Were you there? Who did you hear on the Domain soapbox?

Before the internet gave everyone a comment box, Sydney had Speakers’ Corner — the Domain, Sunday afternoons, a soapbox and a crowd that argued noisily but, a Herald writer noted in 1888, in good humour. That’s the tone we’re after here.

We’re opening the Crate with memories, not complaints. Some of you heard John Webster under the Moreton Bay figs. Some of you did the heckling. We’d like to hear it — who held the crowd, what they said, and the best line you ever shouted back.

So before the first Big Gripe: were you there? Tell us who you heard.

Did you ever stand in the Domain crowd and heckle a speaker on a Sunday?
